With the generous support of the Van Moorsel en Rijnierse Foundation the Eep Talstra Centre for Bible and Computer (ETCBC) will organize a workshop on Linked Data and Syriac Sources, related to its CLARIAH Research Pilot Project LinkSyr: Linking Syriac Data.

In the Digital Age, more and more sources of information are becoming available online, including annotated text databases, encyclopedic resources and geographical tools. Linked Data is the method to structure and interlink such data digitally. Around the world, scholars are taking initiatives to apply Linked Data to the treasures of Syriac Christianity. This makes it possible to combine domain-specific resources (e.g. Syriac lexicographical databases) with other resources (e.g. geographical and encyclopedic information about persons and places) into one large cloud of interlinked data. The workshop aims at building a network of these scholars and developing plans for further cooperation.

The workshop will include contributions about the projects SEDRA, Syriaca, the Oxford-BYU Syriac Corpus Project, HUNAYNNET and ThALES. In addition to the plenary discussion about future cooperation, there will be two panel sessions, one with Syriac scholars and one with people from the Syriac community, to discuss how the development of Linked Data tools for Syriac studies can serve its potential users inside and outside the academic world. For more details see the preliminary programme.
